Black and White Sea photo – Pendennis Head
Long Exposure Black and White in Cornwall
Here is some more Cornwall Photography. This time Pendennis Head, Falmouth. I wanted to add another dimension to this photograph… Time.
Clouds were perfect for this type of photo. Lots of breaks with vivid white edges, yet the underside of the cloud looked dark and heavy.
The breeze was ideal, just giving the clouds movement and allowing time for the sea to flatten with the long exposure, yet keeping some definition to the cloud formations.
The trick to this kind of photo taking is getting a sharp focus without any filters, applying the filter to the lens without upsetting the focus and then keeping all the equipment steady while balancing on a sharp, barnacle encrusted, green, slippery rock while the shutter is open.
Well the effort is worth it I reckon. The dimension the cloud gives, pulling your eye into the horizon is great. The elements all work with each other and the textures blend in this natural environment to produce a really pleasing result. I guess the only down side is the hot spot to the right of the small castellated building. But form me it adds to the picture. What do you think? Please comment on this photograph to give me some feedback.
