Having a quick look around the web for something interesting in the world of Photography news, I came across this concept device which might shed some light onto the future of the photographic world.

From: Engadget

Portraying the digital still camera as an endangered species has been a popular pastime for years in the cellphone industry, and with the high-resolution stills and high-definition video capabilities of the latest round of smartphones, the argument is more convincing than ever when applied to the casual snapshot. But this week at the World Expo in Shanghai, Canon — a name synonymous with high-quality photography — offered a vision of a device that not only supersedes the digital still camera, but will likely eliminate photography as we know it.

The future will hold some really interesting devices to capture the world around us, 3D telly’s are coming out, we have 3d sound, where will it all end???

Amazing pinhole camera photography from Justin Quinell. A six month exposure!

The Clifton Suspension Bridge

Long exposure pinhole camera

This photograph captures each phase of the sun over Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge taken over a total of six months.

The image shows the track of the sun changing as it travels across the sky throughout the year over the suspension bridge, which spans the 702ft (214m) Avon Gorge.

The pinhole Camera

The home-made camera uses black gaffer tape, photographic paper, a hole and lots of time to create the image – full instructions here on the artists web site, Justin Quinell

The simple process allows for some amazing captures, just your imagination holds you back. The process requires a lot of time and consideration. The camera must be facing the sun in your area and some thought needs to be given to the composition of your image. To quote Justin,

One of the many qualities of pinhole photography is its ability to capture time exposures, to see durations of time beyond our vision. Usually this is in the range of a few seconds, but by combining old and new technologies, it is possible to achieve exposures of far greater duration. I have always been fascinated with astronomy, its immense scales of space and time reaching far beyond comprehension within our own short instances on Earth.

The processing is very easy indeed. I was amazed at how easy it is and will be trying this method soon! Please visit Justin web site and see the interesting images he produces and some great tips on how to expand your photography knowledge and practices.

If you have other pinhole camera ideas or photographs, please share them with us by commenting on this post. We would love to see some more great work like this.
