South Wheal Frances Mine

I have been looking for more architecture to photograph and this disused mine seemed a great place to start. There are a few images here from different angles of the South Wheal Frances Mine.

Ground works had been located in this area since the 1720′s, but in the 1830′s Lady Frances Bassett offered a new mineral lease for the site and Wheal Frances was born.

The mine saw its hay day in the 1850′s but employed people and was a valuable working mine into the 20th Century.

These photographs show what is left of the structure now. Recently a lot of money has been invested into making these historic structures safe to view, rejuvenating local Cornish history.

I will revisit the location again soon and get some other photos from South Wheal Frances Mine
